Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has recently been awarded the title of Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Adult Multi-Organ Transplants by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, marking a significant advancement in the emirate's healthcare sector. This recognition highlights Abu Dhabi's rising status in the field of organ transplantation and its dedication to offering top-tier medical services.
Since launching its transplant centre in 2017, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has pioneered various groundbreaking procedures across the UAE and beyond. Key achievements include the first combined heart and lung transplant in 2024, the first robotic lung transplant in 2025, and the inaugural triple-paired kidney donation exchange in the UAE in 2023. The facility has also executed innovative combined lung-liver transplants and simultaneous robotic kidney surgeries, solidifying its leadership in intricate organ transplant operations.
Uniquely positioned in the UAE, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi boasts a specialized ICU dedicated to multi-organ transplants and is the only institution in the nation offering a lung transplant programme. The center has successfully completed over 1,000 organ transplants, achieving results that align with leading global benchmarks. This success is attributed not only to cutting-edge technology but also to a highly trained multidisciplinary medical team committed to research and education.
Centres of Excellence in Abu Dhabi are acknowledged for their specialized services, world-class facilities, and outstanding clinical performance. To earn CoE status, institutions must fulfill rigorous criteria related to clinical outcomes, patient safety, service quality, staff qualifications, research, and medical education initiatives.
