UAE Interns Acquire Experience on Global Film Set

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Recently, Abu Dhabi provided an exceptional opportunity for six burgeoning creatives from the UAE, allowing them to participate in the making of Lionsgate's acclaimed film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. The interns engaged hands-on in essential departments such as camera, wardrobe, production, and location management, gaining invaluable insight into the dynamic atmosphere of global filmmaking.

The movie debuted as the highest-grossing film worldwide, having generated $147.5 million in revenue. This exposure gave interns a unique perspective on professional processes and industry standards. They developed practical skills, aided in daily production tasks, and learned the intricacies of large-scale film sets.

Since 2020, the Creative Media Authority (CMA) and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) have successfully placed over 300 interns in more than 100 film projects, both locally and internationally. Notably, over half of the interns are Emiratis, with 19 gaining international experience in countries like Romania, Egypt, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, and the USA. More than 40 of these past interns are currently making their mark in Abu Dhabi's expanding film and media industry, demonstrating the lasting influence of these initiatives.

Participants reflected on their experiences, with production intern Bushra Wasim stating, "This has broadened my perspective of the industry and clarified what I want to pursue." Costume intern Sheikha Al Junaibi remarked, "From fittings to styling, real on-set exposure is invaluable. I'm grateful to CMA for this opportunity."

Through programs like this, CMA and ADFC play a pivotal role in fostering local talent, providing practical training and mentorship, and supporting the vision for a vibrant cultural and creative landscape in the UAE.
