The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains a serious public health concern, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Health officials say the outbreak has not yet been brought under consistent control across all affected areas.
Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said available data does not yet confirm that the outbreak has passed its peak. The agency’s Emergency Consultative Group reported that Ebola transmission remains inconsistent across affected locations.

Data from Africa CDC showed a slight decrease in reported Ebola cases during the two weeks before the latest assessment. However, health authorities say the decline needs to continue over a sustained period before the outbreak can be considered to have passed its peak.
Congo Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba previously said there were encouraging signs in the response to the outbreak. He reported that transmission had been gradually slowing after a reported peak in mid-August.
Jean Kaseya also acknowledged a decrease in infections in parts of eastern Ituri province. At the same time, he stressed that the available information remains incomplete and that the overall situation continues to require close monitoring.
Africa CDC officials have pointed to gaps in infection prevention and control as part of the continuing challenge. Strengthening infection prevention measures remains important for limiting further transmission in affected communities and healthcare settings.
Africa CDC said it remains committed to supporting the Congolese government in responding to the outbreak. Officials will continue monitoring new cases and transmission patterns before determining whether the outbreak has entered a sustained downward phase.
