Abu Dhabi is gearing up to host the Cyber Run & Ride community event on January 17 and 18, 2026. This initiative combines running and cycling events focused on promoting healthy habits while elevating awareness about technology and digital safety.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and supported by the UAE Cybersecurity Council, this event is part of a broader initiative to enhance community engagement, encourage active lifestyles, and improve digital literacy among families and young individuals.
Cyber Run & Ride promises to be a family-friendly festival held in a vibrant event village, featuring interactive experiences, community-focused activities, and educational zones. The goal is to create a lively atmosphere where sport, learning, and awareness coexist safely for participants of all ages.
The running events will occur on January 17, offering various distances including a half marathon, 10km, 5km, and 2.5km. The cycling segment will take place on January 18 in a non-competitive format, promoting inclusive engagement and leisurely rides.
Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, emphasized the importance of physical and mental well-being as a defense against evolving digital threats. He noted rising concerns about criminal organizations targeting younger generations via deceptive online practices.
Dr. Al Kuwaiti reiterated that the Cyber Run & Ride goes beyond mere athletics. It serves as a platform to promote healthy lifestyles which are essential to safeguarding communities from cybercrime and online trafficking issues. Regular physical activity, he stated, heightens focus and mental resilience, aiding individuals in recognizing unsafe online behaviors and making informed choices.
He also highlighted the pivotal role of families in cybersecurity, encouraging open dialogue and education about safe digital practices to nurture responsible technology use among children.
Ending his comments, Dr. Al Kuwaiti affirmed that events like Cyber Run & Ride indicate the UAE’s dedication to fostering a healthy, informed, and digitally secure society, urging community members to engage in awareness initiatives.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, pointed out that the event aligns with the council's vision for increased community sports participation throughout the emirate.
Al Awani mentioned that the aim of Cyber Run & Ride is to inspire residents to lead active lives while providing a well-rounded experience that merges fun with education, thereby enhancing the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.
This partnership with the UAE Cybersecurity Council also aligns with the upcoming declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Family, emphasizing national goals centered on family unity, stability, and wellness, alongside advocacy for the family’s importance in a robust society.
Further details regarding race routes, activities, and registration will be shared in the coming weeks.
This event builds on the success of last year's inaugural Run & Ride, which took place on February 18, 2024, along the Abu Dhabi Corniche and drew thousands, establishing it as a key community platform for promoting health, sports, and social awareness.
