Celina Jaitly Urges Communication with Her Brother Held in UAE

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Celina Jaitly remains hopeful as her brother, Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, continues to be held in the UAE for over 15 months. This prolonged silence has been emotional for the family, yet a recent order from the Delhi High Court has ignited a flicker of hope.

On Thursday, the court instructed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to inform Retired Major Vikrant during the next consular meet about his sister's wish to communicate with him. It also mandated the Ministry to utilize the UAE’s TAMM app or any other feasible communication channel.

In a touching Instagram post, Celina expressed her heartache regarding the ongoing silence. “Ma & Pa… I am doing my best! I haven’t spoken to Vikrant in 15 months. Today, hope was placed on record… Thank you, Universe!!” she shared following the court proceedings.

She stated that her petition for access to her brother and legal support was considered by the High Court, where the MEA provided a status update and designated a nodal officer for coordination. Although communication with Vikrant remains unachieved, the Additional Solicitor General assured the court of efforts to facilitate it.

The court recognized the family's anguish alongside their long history of service in the Indian Armed Forces, with the next hearing scheduled for December 23.

Requesting privacy amid this challenging time, Celina announced that she would refrain from media inquiries and direct all questions to her attorney, Raghav Kacker of Kacker & Co.

Previously reported, Maj. (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly had been residing in the UAE since 2016, working with the MATITI Group, specializing in trading, consultancy, and risk management services. His detention, starting September 2024, is reportedly tied to national security issues raised by UAE officials.
