DEWA Unveils 1,994 New 11kV Substations for Dubai's Power Network

DEWA Unveils 1,994 New 11kV Substations for Dubai's Power Network

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a strategic move to enhance Dubai's electricity distribution, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has initiated the commissioning of 1,994 new 11kV substations within 2025. This significant development boosts the total number of substations, marking a notable increase of over 30 percent from 1,530 accomplished in 2024.

This milestone underscores DEWA's commitment to modernizing its electricity infrastructure to align with Dubai’s dynamic urban evolution, soaring population numbers, and the escalating demand for dependable energy solutions.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, emphasized that the organization is focused on synchronizing its infrastructure enhancement initiatives with the UAE leadership's vision, ensuring top-tier utility services and efficiently catering to future energy necessities.

Al Tayer remarked that DEWA is diligently enhancing its distribution network under globally recognized standards, facilitating Dubai's economic and urban aspirations while adequately addressing anticipated electricity demands through 2030. This progress is pivotal to amplifying Dubai’s appeal as a prime destination for living, working, and investments, in accordance with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

He further reinforced DEWA's dedication to integrating advanced technologies and digital innovations into the design, implementation, and operation of its distribution networks. Such initiatives aim to boost operational efficacy, fortify network durability and reliability, and deliver services that not only meet customers' evolving expectations but also champion Dubai’s sustainability objectives and transition to net-zero emissions.

Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, indicated that the construction and inauguration of the new substations, along with surrounding distribution network initiatives, accumulated over 1.45 million working hours throughout 2025. He highlighted that all processes adhered to the highest health, safety, and quality benchmarks.

Bin Humaidan noted that the cumulative count of medium-voltage distribution substations, consisting of both 11kV and 6.6 kV facilities, registered at 47,060 by the conclusion of 2025. This expansion symbolizes DEWA's continuous investment in fortifying Dubai’s electricity framework and guarantees a secure, dependable, and sustainable power supply for residents, enterprises, and future projects across the emirate.

This latest accomplishment reaffirms DEWA's integral role in propelling Dubai’s long-range development vision by constructing a robust energy network capable of satisfying growing demands while ensuring exceptional levels of service reliability and operational prowess.
