Dhofar Scientific Forum Announces Research Winners

Salalah, Oman — September 17, 2026: The organizing committee of the Third Dhofar Scientific Forum has announced the winning teams in the research studies track following a scientific competition involving researchers and academics from higher education institutions and research centers across Oman. The forum was organized by the Research and Innovation Authority in cooperation with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Salalah.

Research Competition Highlights Local Challenges

The research studies track focused on identifying practical solutions to development challenges affecting Dhofar Governorate. Researchers examined subjects including oil spill management, tourism pressure during the autumn season, water resources, sustainable agriculture, support for small and medium enterprises and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

Oil Spill Study Takes First Place

The team behind the oil spill study challenge secured first place in the competition. The research team consisted of Khadija Salem Al-Hosni, Noura Bint Al-Mur Al-Ghabshi and Bushra Bint Mohammed Al-Kalbani, under the supervision of Dr. Zakia Bint Saeed Al-Amri.

Tourism Pressure Study Secures Second Place

Second place went to the team that conducted the tourism pressure study challenge during the autumn season. The team included Mona bint Khamis Al-Alawi, Reem bint Saleh Al-Harasi, Badriya bint Khamis Al-Faliti and Ahoud bint Khamis Al-Jabri, under the supervision of Dr. Noor bint Masoud Kashoub.

Research Evaluated by Expert Panel

The participating research projects were evaluated by a judging panel comprising experts and specialists. The assessment considered several factors, including the quality of the scientific research methodology, the standard of visual presentations and the effectiveness and practical value of the recommendations developed by the participating teams.

Focus on Science and Innovation

Dr. Nasreen bint Yahya Al-Balushi, who oversees the Research and Innovation Capacity Building Department at the Research and Innovation Authority, said the successful completion of the forum represents an important step in using research and innovation to serve society and address priority development challenges in Dhofar Governorate.

From Research to Practical Solutions

The strategic research studies track was conducted in partnership with the Chair of Strategic Technical Studies. According to the forum organizers, its importance extends beyond recognizing the winning teams. The research produced knowledge, proposed solutions and practical recommendations that could potentially be developed into initiatives and projects with economic and developmental value.

Supporting Sustainable Development in Dhofar

The forum demonstrates the role of scientific research in examining local economic, environmental, tourism and social challenges. By connecting researchers with development priorities, the initiative aims to encourage solutions that can support sustainable development and strengthen the contribution of research and innovation to Oman’s future.The closing ceremony featured a presentation highlighting the forum’s activities, followed by the recognition of the winning teams, judging panel and organizing committee. The event brought together research and academic participants and highlighted the potential for scientific studies to contribute to practical development initiatives in Dhofar.
