DIFC Tops 10,000 Companies as Dubai Strengthens Financial Hub

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the leading global financial centre serving the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA), has reported record growth during the first half of 2026. The centre crossed the milestone of 10,000 active registered companies for the first time, highlighting growing international confidence in Dubai as a global destination for finance, business and innovation.

By the end of H1 2026, DIFC had a total of 10,018 active registered companies, after adding 2,318 new active registered businesses over the past 12 months. This represents 30% organic growth compared to the same period last year.

The number of regulated financial services firms also increased to 1,134, reflecting 16% annual growth. The latest results reinforce DIFC's position as the region's largest and most diversified financial services ecosystem and support the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to place Dubai among the world's top four financial centres.

Sheikh Maktoum Highlights Global Confidence in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, and President of DIFC, said the achievement reflects the continued trust global investors and financial institutions place in Dubai.

He stated that, under the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global economic centre and one of the world's most advanced financial hubs.

Sheikh Maktoum said surpassing 10,000 active registered companies for the first time demonstrates the confidence that international financial institutions, investors and innovators have in DIFC's legal and regulatory framework. He added that the centre continues to provide a gateway for regional and international business growth.

He further said the latest performance marks an important step towards achieving the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to establish Dubai among the world's top four financial centres. According to him, Dubai will continue expanding its financial ecosystem to attract international investment, support innovation and shape the future of global finance.

Financial Services Sector Continues Strong Expansion

DIFC reported steady growth across all major financial sectors, including banking, capital markets, wealth and asset management, insurance, reinsurance, hedge funds, financial technology and innovation.

The financial ecosystem now includes:

  • 327 banks and capital markets firms
  • 165 insurance and reinsurance companies
  • 592 wealth and asset management firms

DIFC also continues to host the highest concentration of hedge funds in the region.

Several global organisations established regional offices in DIFC since the first half of 2025. These include Allianz Trade Middle East Limited, Allied World Assurance Company Holdings Ltd, Arrowpoint Investment Partners (AIP Management), Atradius Trade Credit (Re)Insurance (DIFC) Ltd., Bank of Canada, Blue Mountain Capital, BMS (DIFC) Limited, Braemer Securities, CapitaLand Investment, Citadel, Gordian Capital, HIB Insurance, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company Ltd, JP Morgan International Advisors, Keystone Financial Solutions, LianLian, Payrails, Prospera Wealth Management, RV Capital Management, QIC (DIFC) Limited, Ryan Specialty (DIFC) Limited, Sun Life (DIFC) Limited, TMF Group and Varenne Capital Partners.

DIFC also maintained its position as the region's largest insurance and reinsurance centre. Gross written premiums reached $4.2 billion during 2025, supported by continued growth from major international insurance companies.

The centre also improved its standing in the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) by rising to seventh place globally. The London-based independent ranking also confirmed Dubai as the highest-ranked financial centre across the MEASA region.

DIFC Leaders Outline Future Growth Strategy

His Excellency Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC, said the latest performance reflects the strength, resilience and long-term appeal of Dubai's economy.

He said DIFC continues to attract international institutions, investors and skilled professionals looking to access high-growth markets across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. He added that the centre's regulatory environment, legal framework and business ecosystem continue to strengthen Dubai's position among the world's leading financial centres.

His Excellency Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer of DIFC Authority, said global institutions continue to choose Dubai and DIFC as their preferred location for expansion.

He noted that strong growth has been recorded across all major financial sectors, supported by increasing investment, innovation and business expansion. He also said DIFC remains focused on becoming the world's first AI-Native financial centre, where artificial intelligence will play a central role in finance, regulation, operations and talent development.

Innovation Hub Records Rapid Growth

DIFC's Innovation Hub continued to expand during the first half of 2026.

The hub welcomed 361 new companies, increasing the total number of AI, FinTech and innovation businesses to 1,933, representing 39% year-on-year growth.

Meanwhile, Ignyte continued supporting entrepreneurs by providing access to investment opportunities, mentorship and business development resources.

Earlier this year, DIFC announced its goal of becoming the world's first AI-Native financial centre by integrating artificial intelligence into regulatory systems, operational processes, infrastructure and workforce development.

According to DIFC, this transformation is expected to generate $3.5 billion (AED12.9 billion) in economic value while creating 25,000 new jobs, further strengthening Dubai's leadership in the future of financial services.

The centre also continued updating its legal and regulatory framework through proposals designed to modernise data protection and arbitration rules. These measures are intended to support responsible innovation, encourage emerging technologies and align DIFC with global best practices.

Private Wealth and Family Business Continue to Grow

DIFC further strengthened its position as a regional centre for private wealth management during the reporting period.

The number of family-related entities increased to 1,408, representing 36% annual growth.

The number of foundations reached 1,409, recording a 67% increase over the past 12 months.

To support family businesses during the UAE Year of the Family, DIFC launched the Family Wealth Centre Expert Advisory Council and the Next Generation Leadership Programme. These initiatives aim to support wealth preservation, succession planning and long-term family business development.

DIFC Academy Expands Professional Training

DIFC Academy continued strengthening workforce development by expanding professional education programmes.

During the first six months of 2026, the academy increased its total number of programmes to 144, representing 22% growth compared with the same period in 2025.

The academy remains focused on developing specialised skills needed to support the future expansion of the financial services industry and the wider knowledge economy.

Demand for Office Space Remains Strong

Demand for commercial space within DIFC remained high during the first half of 2026.

The launch of DIFC Zabeel District marked another important stage in the centre's long-term expansion plans.

At the same time, DIFC Square, offering 600,000 square feet of office space, was fully pre-leased before completion, reflecting continued demand from businesses seeking to establish operations within Dubai's leading financial district.
