Chair of UAE FNC Advocates for Humanitarian Law at IPU Assembly

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), accentuated the significance of international humanitarian law during his speech at the 151st IPU General Assembly held in Geneva. He reiterated that compliance with humanitarian law is both a legal obligation and a protector of justice and human dignity.

Throughout his remarks, Dr. Al Nuaimi pointed out the increasing politicization of humanitarian efforts in global conflicts and emergencies. He explained that when these efforts are manipulated by political interests, the primary mission of aid—to safeguard lives and uphold human rights—is jeopardized, resulting in countless individuals being left in precarious situations.

He called upon fellow parliamentarians to ensure that humanitarian initiatives transcend political and geographical divides. “Humanity endures pain when we neglect laws and principles in responding to global challenges,” he stated, emphasizing that relief activities should concentrate solely on mitigating human suffering.

Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed the UAE’s dedication to universal human values that connect individuals across nations. He underlined that the UAE’s humanitarian efforts are rooted in a philosophy of solidarity and esteem for human dignity, showcasing a model for worldwide collaboration.

He drew attention to the fact that millions globally continue to face starvation, fear, and limited access to essential resources, including healthcare, education, and clean drinking water. He urged parliamentary bodies to come together to effectively confront these pressing issues, underscoring the collective obligation toward global welfare.

Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted the UAE’s prominent role in humanitarian initiatives and charitable actions, especially in Africa and other areas grappling with conflict and poverty. The UAE is committed to delivering food aid, medical support, education, and infrastructure enhancements to guarantee the safety and well-being of those affected.

He asserted that fostering partnerships between nations and advancing shared values is vital for constructing a sustainable and peaceful future. Cooperation among parliaments, governmental bodies, and humanitarian organizations can significantly enhance the efficacy of aid and improve global stability.

In conclusion, Dr. Al Nuaimi reiterated that upholding international humanitarian law is fundamental to ensuring justice and dignity for everyone. Adhering to these principles not only safeguards vulnerable populations but also strengthens global unity and encourages cooperation to navigate crises.

He urged parliamentarians around the world to actively participate in furthering humanitarian efforts, promoting policies that protect human rights, and directing initiatives that guarantee aid reaches those in urgent need without differentiation.

This address underscored the UAE’s commitment to global humanitarian responsibilities and the essential role of parliamentary engagement. By championing laws, values, and collaborations, Dr. Al Nuaimi reiterated the UAE’s commitment to fostering a more equitable, humane, and cooperative international landscape.
