Dubai to Host First-Ever World Triathlon Women’s Cup 2025

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Dubai is preparing to make global sports history by hosting the world’s first and exclusive 2025 World Triathlon Women’s Cup on 7th December 2025. This major international event will take place at the iconic Dubai Islands and is being organised by the Dubai Sports Council in cooperation with the UAE Triathlon Federation. It will also run under the supervision of World Triathlon, the global governing body for the sport.

The launch of this competition marks an important milestone for women’s sports in the UAE. It officially activates the “Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Campaign,” which aims to increase women’s participation in competitive sports and give them more opportunities to grow. This event supports Dubai’s long-term vision to build a strong, inclusive and inspiring sports sector.

The World Triathlon Women’s Cup is also a key element of the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, a plan designed to transform the emirate into a leading global sports destination. This strategy is built on four main pillars: supporting sports clubs, developing new talent, encouraging community involvement and enhancing Dubai’s international sports reputation.

The strategic plan includes 19 programmes and 75 different initiatives. Together, they are expected to contribute about AED 18.3 billion to Dubai’s economy by 2033. Hosting major global sports events like this triathlon is a major part of Dubai’s effort to achieve these goals.

DP World has been confirmed as the official partner for the historic event, showing its commitment to helping women progress in sports. Dubai Holding will serve as the event host, while Dubai Sports Channel will be the official broadcaster, ensuring global coverage.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said that the company is proud to support such a groundbreaking global competition. He said the event highlights the power of sport in building confidence, promoting health and creating new opportunities for women. He also welcomed participants from around the world and said Dubai Islands will be an inspiring location for the triathlon.

Organisers have already started preparing for the event and have increased coordination meetings to ensure everything is professionally managed. These meetings involve World Triathlon, the UAE Triathlon Federation, Dubai Sports Channel, Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding. The goal is to create a safe, well-organised and high-quality environment for all athletes taking part in the event.

The competition will include all three main triathlon disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. There will be five categories to ensure that both professionals and beginners can participate.

The elite category will be for professional athletes. There will also be a sprint category for amateurs, which includes 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running. For beginners and age-group participants, there will be a super-sprint category that includes 400 metres of swimming, 10 kilometres of cycling and 2.5 kilometres of running.

These categories give participants from different skill levels a chance to compete, experience international sports standards and grow their abilities.

This event is seen as a major step forward for women’s sports development in the region. It highlights Dubai’s dedication to empowering women, expanding sports participation and building an inclusive environment. Topics related to women’s empowerment, global sports, triathlon challenges, athlete development and sports innovation play a central role in this event’s purpose.

By hosting the world’s first Women’s Triathlon Cup, Dubai is sending a strong message that women’s sports deserve global recognition, investment and support. The city aims to continue inspiring athletes, attracting international events and cementing its position as one of the world’s top sports destinations.
