Dubai Customs has inaugurated the Center of Excellence for Customs and Trade Logistics in collaboration with the University of Dubai, as part of a strategic initiative to reinforce the emirate's status as a prominent global trade and logistics hub. This endeavor seeks to modernize customs processes, bolster supply chain resilience, and align with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
The center will serve as a pioneering research and knowledge facility aimed at crafting innovative customs strategies, boosting operational efficiency, and elevating the competitiveness of Dubai's trade framework. Officials noted that this project embodies Dubai's long-term vision to establish itself as a major economic and commercial player on the global stage.
According to Dubai Customs, the center will concentrate on policy enhancement, applied research, digital customs solutions, and international comparative studies intended to streamline trade facilitation and logistics capabilities. The initiative is also geared at fostering smarter customs operations utilizing artificial intelligence and contemporary trade methodologies.
By joining forces with the University of Dubai, the center will engage with premier global academic institutions and research entities. Notable collaborators include Kühne Logistics University, Michigan State University, the University of Adelaide, and Henley Business School, among others.
Officials stated that this center aims to tackle emerging worldwide trade challenges like cross-border e-commerce, supply chain security, sustainability, and digital transformation in logistics. This project is anticipated to facilitate enhanced trade transparency and better customer experiences through customs services.
Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, characterized the center as a vital investment in the future of Dubai and a crucial element of the emirate's growth strategy. He emphasized that the initiative will strengthen research abilities, endorse evidence-grounded policymaking, and help Dubai stay competitive in an evolving global trade landscape.
Dr Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, mentioned that this partnership bridges the gap between academic insight and practical customs functions. He highlighted the collaboration’s goal to develop innovative solutions that could redefine global trade regulation and integrated logistics.
As part of the launch, Dubai Customs and the University of Dubai are also hosting an extensive innovation hackathon, involving 33 student teams and over 110 participants, focusing on producing smart solutions for customs inspections, supply chain integrity, trade transparency, and future logistics technologies.
This initiative showcases Dubai's commitment to digital evolution, innovation, and knowledge-based economic growth as it aims to position itself at the forefront of the future global trade landscape.
