Dubai Energy Council Boosts AI, Fuel Network Expansion Plans

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, chaired the council’s 93rd meeting held virtually. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer along with senior officials and key members from major government and energy entities.

During the meeting, the council reviewed Dubai’s strategy to expand retail fuel stations across the emirate. The plan aims to improve fuel services and ensure smoother traffic movement at filling stations.

The council also discussed several strategic initiatives focused on enhancing operational efficiency and safety standards in fuel distribution. Officials highlighted ongoing efforts by Emirates National Oil Company to improve fuelling operations and vehicle flow at service stations.

A major focus of the meeting was the increasing use of artificial intelligence by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Key developments include the world’s first AI-powered gas turbine controller at the Jebel Ali Power Generation and Water Desalination Complex.

DEWA is also set to launch its “Virtual Engineer” in June 2026, which is expected to further improve system performance and operational efficiency.

Officials noted that AI integration is already improving productivity at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which currently produces 3,860 megawatts—about 21.5% of Dubai’s total energy mix.

Dubai aims to increase clean energy capacity to over 36% by 2030, supporting long-term strategies to achieve 100% clean energy production by 2050.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to adopting advanced technologies and expanding infrastructure to support sustainable growth and energy efficiency in Dubai.
