Dubai Esports & Games Festival Returns Bigger from May 8-24

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai is set to become a global gaming hub as the Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) 2026 returns from 8 to 24 May, marking its fifth and largest edition yet. Organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), DEF has rapidly grown into a major international festival attracting gamers, families, and industry professionals.

In 2025, the festival drew over 45,000 attendees across 12 major events over 17 days. DEF 2026 aligns with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33, aiming to position the city among the world’s top three global cities, and follows government initiatives to advance the gaming and creative sectors.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE, said: “DEF has evolved into a strategic platform showcasing Dubai’s ambition in gaming, esports, and digital innovation. DEF 2026 continues to attract global talent, empower creators, and strengthen Dubai’s position as a major hub for interactive entertainment.”

The festival emphasizes youth engagement and family participation, offering inclusive experiences that unite generations through gaming, creativity, and interactive play.

Key Highlights of DEF 2026

  • GameExpo (22–24 May) at Dubai World Trade Centre with hands-on gameplay, live tournaments, and new zones like Neo Tokyo District, Battle Arena, and Velocity Garage.

  • GameExpo Summit powered by PG Connects (20–21 May), bringing global developers, publishers, and investors to Dubai to discuss the future of gaming and esports.

  • LEGO Collaboration, a first-time experience offering interactive build zones and creative challenges for families and children.

Education and Youth Engagement

The DEF Educational Engagement Programme invites schools, students, and teachers to join creative workshops, challenges, and competitions to develop skills in gaming, innovation, and digital arts.
