Dubai Future Solutions Enhances Global Startups with UAE Pilots

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai is elevating three international university-driven ventures into pilot programs and commercial prospects within the UAE through the initiative ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’, recognized as one of the largest global programs for fostering university innovation and entrepreneurship.

This initiative is held annually in Dubai, backed by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and managed by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in collaboration with the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority, Art Dubai, and the Hussain Sajwani – DAMAC Foundation.

Each year, the program shortlists 100 startups from thousands of global university submissions, aiding them in transitioning from theoretical research to practical implementation.

Three Innovative Ventures Advance in UAE

In its inaugural cohort, the program is advancing three ventures hailing from Switzerland, the United States, and Egypt into pilot phase and scaling opportunities in the UAE:

Oxara (Switzerland) is pioneering sustainable construction solutions by transforming mineral and construction waste into eco-friendly building materials. The company has initiated a pilot with a leading UAE concrete producer and is gearing up for larger-scale operations across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

P-Vita (Egypt) specializes in agricultural biotechnology utilizing AI-driven methods to produce natural fertilizers for agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals. So far, it supports over 4,800 smallholder farmers and is extending its trials within the UAE.

Virufy (United States/Japan research team) is developing an AI-enabled health screening tool capable of identifying respiratory diseases through cough sound analysis. They are undertaking a pilot clinical study in collaboration with Dubai Health, having nearly 200 patients participating.

Visionary Leadership

Khalfan Belhoul expressed that the program generates a structured pathway to propel groundbreaking research from laboratories into real-world applications, backed by Dubai’s extensive innovation ecosystem.

Arif Amiri emphasized that this initiative reinforces Dubai's status as a premier global innovation center by facilitating connections among capital, institutions, and talent.

From Research to Market: Scaling Innovation

Program leaders have indicated that the initiative provides crucial funding, business insights, industry partnerships, and practical support to empower academic entrepreneurs in transitioning research into marketable ventures. This aims to mitigate risks and expedite real-world adoption.

Tadeu Baldani Caravieri noted that the program effectively bridges scientific advancements with commercial viability through well-structured support and collaboration.

Fostering Global Ventures

The next round of the program will welcome new ventures from prestigious global institutions, including Harvard University, Imperial College London, Petronas Technology University, and Duke University. Selected initiatives are already engaged in advanced discussions for deployment with UAE-based partners set to commence in 2026.

Now Accepting Applications

Applications are officially open for the upcoming ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’ summit, welcoming students, graduates, and researchers worldwide to submit their innovative concepts for potential inclusion in next year's showcase in Dubai.
