Dubai authorities have reported strong compliance across the retail sector following an extensive market monitoring campaign that confirmed the availability of essential goods and stable prices throughout the emirate. Officials said the findings reflect the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to protect consumers and maintain market confidence.
The Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, operating under the Department of Economy and Tourism, carried out 8,479 inspection visits between March 1 and June 7. The inspections covered supermarkets, hypermarkets, fruit and vegetable markets, and major distribution centres across residential and commercial areas.
During the same period, authorities reviewed 31,504 consumer complaints and reports submitted through various channels. Among these, 641 complaints were related to alleged price increases. However, inspectors identified only three violations involving unjustified price hikes, highlighting a high level of compliance among businesses.
Officials stated that the inspection campaign was designed to ensure transparency in pricing and to verify that retailers were following regulations related to consumer rights. The programme also aimed to strengthen trust between consumers and businesses operating in Dubai's competitive marketplace.
Ahmed Ahli, Acting Director of Consumer Protection at Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, said retailers and service providers are required to clearly display prices in stores, online platforms and promotional materials. He stressed that customers must be charged exactly the same amount displayed at the point of sale.
Authorities also noted the growing role of digital complaint systems in helping regulators identify potential violations quickly. Consumer reports submitted through smart platforms have become an important source of information for inspection teams, allowing faster investigations and corrective action when necessary.
Dubai officials reassured residents that market conditions remain stable, with essential products available in sufficient quantities across the emirate. They added that continued cooperation between regulators and business partners, along with regular inspections, is helping maintain a transparent, reliable and consumer-friendly marketplace.
