Dubai's RTA Sets Global Record with Buses Surpassing 2 Million km Each

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai, UAE: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has reached an impressive milestone with its bus fleet each exceeding 2 million kilometers, establishing a new record on a global scale. With 18 years of consistent service, these buses uphold high operational standards, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a leader in sustainable transport and innovation.

Impressive Comparisons:

When compared globally, RTA's buses greatly exceed the performance of other renowned cities. London’s buses have a maximum of 1.3 million km, while those in Singapore reach 1.4 million km. In 2025, the availability of Dubai’s bus fleet was over 93%, complemented by an impressively low fault rate, showcasing the RTA's commitment to preventive maintenance and strict operational protocols.

Strategic Achievement:

This record is more than a numerical accomplishment; it highlights RTA’s dedication to sustainable public transportation. By optimizing resource usage and adhering to circular economy principles, the Authority has successfully extended the life of its buses, which results in minimized waste, reduced capital costs, and improved sustainability.

Operational Excellence:

This accomplishment illustrates the effectiveness of RTA’s maintenance programs and operational strategies. A team of dedicated professionals has ensured that the fleet is maintained to outstanding standards, directly contributing to customer satisfaction and enhancing Dubai’s global reputation for quality urban services.

Environmental and Economic Benefits:

The longevity of the buses supports Dubai's environmental initiatives by reducing manufacturing waste and delaying replacement costs of the fleet. This success aligns with the city’s goals for smart mobility, sustainable development, and improved quality of life for its citizens.

By achieving this remarkable record, Dubai RTA illustrates how effective management, sustainability, and efficiency can set outstanding benchmarks in public transport, pushing cities worldwide to enhance their environmental and operational standards.
