Dubai's Tourism Sector Unveils 2026 Strategy Amid Growth

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) hosted its City Briefing on June 3 at Dubai Opera, attracting over 1,700 representatives from tourism, aviation, hospitality, retail, and event sectors, along with government officials and media.

This large turnout emphasized collaborative efforts between public and private sectors, reviewing recent regional developments and outlining vital plans for enhancing tourism and economic growth throughout 2026.

Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, showcased Dubai’s dedication to the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), enhancing its position as a global business and tourism hub.

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), noted that the tourism sector thrives on robust public-private partnerships, a varied market range, and a flexible model supporting stability and growth amid shifting regional conditions.

Officials highlighted rapid actions taken to safeguard Dubai’s visitor economy during recent challenges, which included activating contingency strategies and coordinating with Emirates and flydubai to keep travel efficient, providing timely guidance to tourism operators, and ensuring clear communication with international markets.

Additionally, the Dubai Government rolled out a significant AED 2.5 billion support initiative to aid the tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors. This encompassed financial assistance for qualifying businesses, expedited licensing, and efforts to preserve jobs and maintain service standards.

Entering 2026 on a high note, Dubai saw record numbers of international visitors in 2025, with a GDP growth of 6.4 percent in Q4 of 2025, and welcomed a staggering 95.2 million passengers at Dubai International Airport.

Industry stakeholders emphasized collaboration within the tourism sector, with hotels offering flexible booking and restaurants launching promotional campaigns to encourage consumer spending and sustain business operations.

Initiatives like "Dubai, A Fine Way to Dine" and "Dubai Restaurant Week" further bolstered the food and beverage sector by drawing residents and visitors to diverse dining experiences.

Looking forward, DET revealed an ambitious lineup of events for 2026, including the much-anticipated return of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) in July, featuring retail discounts and family-friendly attractions. The event will host the Great Dubai Summer Sale and Summer Restaurant Week.

Celebrating the 10th edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge from October 31 to November 29 further defines Dubai’s emergence as a prominent wellness and lifestyle tourism destination.

Substantial investment in infrastructure continues, with the newly approved Gold Line Metro project set to create a 42-kilometre underground network spanning 15 districts, while plans for the Blue Line are on track for a 2029 completion.

Moreover, the US$35 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport is underway, aiming to position it as the world's largest aviation hub.

The City Briefing culminated in a collective commitment from government and industry leaders to sustain growth, enhance competitiveness, and solidify Dubai’s status as a premier global destination for tourism, business, and innovation.
