Dubai Launches Its First Air Taxi Station Near DXB

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai has officially inaugurated its first Air Taxi station adjacent to Dubai International Airport (DXB), a landmark advancement toward electric air mobility within the emirate. This endeavor is a testament to the city's enduring ambition to create an advanced and eco-friendly transportation framework.

Sheikh Hamdan Celebrates a Leap in Mobility

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum hailed this development as a critical juncture in Dubai's path toward innovative urban mobility. He affirmed that the project is in harmony with Dubai's objective of establishing itself as a global frontrunner in sustainable transportation.

Furthermore, he pointed out that this new Air Taxi infrastructure not only enriches transportation alternatives but also elevates the quality of life and enhances urban efficiency.

First eVTOL Air Taxi Station to Service DXB

The newly established facility is the pioneering purpose-built electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) Air Taxi station in Dubai. Located near DXB, it will serve as the primary hub for forthcoming Air Taxi operations.

Notable features of the station include:

  • A four-storey establishment covering 3,100 square meters

  • Two dedicated pads for landing and take-off

  • Electric charging facilities for Air Taxi units

  • Climate-controlled amenities for passengers

  • Yearly capacity to accommodate 170,000 travelers

Significantly Reduced Travel Times Across Dubai

One of the standout advantages of the Air Taxi service will be the notable reduction in travel durations. The trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is anticipated to only take around 10 minutes, a dramatic decrease from the nearly 45 minutes required by road.

Expected Launch and Future Expansion Plans

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced that commercial Air Taxi services are slated to kick off by year-end. By 2026, the network aims to broaden to four stations, including Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.

Collaborative Efforts Fueling the Project

The realization of this project is the result of a partnership between:

  • Skyports Infrastructure (station design and operational management)

  • Joby Aviation (aircraft manufacturing and operation)

  • Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (regulatory compliance and integration)

Additionally, Joby Aviation has secured exclusive operational rights for Air Taxi services in Dubai for six years through an agreement with the RTA.

The Future of Smart Urban Transport

Officials have stated that the Air Taxi system is set to integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s existing transport network, including the metro, buses, as well as micro-mobility options like e-scooters and bicycles. This service is anticipated to boost connectivity, alleviate congestion, and support Dubai's vision of becoming an international benchmark for intelligent urban mobility.
