Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has officially inaugurated an advanced metallurgical testing laboratory at the EGA Spectro Alloys recycling facility in Minnesota, marking a pivotal advancement in its US operations. This initiative aligns with a significant expansion project aimed at addressing the rising demand for premium recycled aluminium.
The cutting-edge lab will conduct comprehensive metallographic evaluations and mechanical assessments on finished aluminium products, ensuring that every production batch adheres to stringent specifications. Furthermore, clients will have the opportunity to submit samples from castings or extrusions, which will facilitate quick troubleshooting and quality enhancements.
The expansion of EGA Spectro Alloys is expected to boost secondary billet production by 55,000 tonnes in its initial phase, raising total production capacity to 165,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium ingots and billets annually. The complete operational capacity upgrade is anticipated to be realized by the first quarter of 2026.
With its growing significance, recycled aluminium delivers substantial environmental advantages, requiring up to 95% less energy compared to primary production while resulting in notably lower greenhouse gas emissions. The US market is estimated to demand 7.6 million tonnes of recycled aluminium each year by 2033, underscoring the strategic relevance of EGA's expansion efforts.
This expansion follows EGA's acquisition of an 80% share in EGA Spectro Alloys in 2024, further solidifying the company’s dedication to low-carbon aluminium solutions and ensuring a dependable supply of high-quality metal for its customers.
