On Tuesday afternoon, a significant fire ignited at a logistics warehouse located in Unyang-dong, Gimpo, South Korea, triggering a robust emergency response that raised alarms among local residents due to thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the site.
Local officials reported that the blaze erupted around 2:45 p.m. in a clothing storage warehouse. Thankfully, no injuries have been recorded as firefighters continue their efforts to manage the flames.
Emergency Teams Activate Level 1 Response
Fire authorities declared a Level 1 emergency, mobilizing all available personnel from the local station to curtail the fire’s spread to surrounding structures.
The warehouse comprises three steel-structured facilities, encompassing a total area of about 331 square meters. Emergency teams persist in battling the fire, while keeping a vigilant watch over the vicinity.
Public Safety Warnings Issued
Dense clouds of black smoke prompted warnings to the public, with many social media users advising nearby residents to keep their windows shut and refrain from going outside unnecessarily.
Authorities also recommended that motorists avoid routes near the affected location to facilitate the maneuvering of emergency vehicles.
City Government Issues Emergency Alert
The Gimpo city administration dispatched emergency text alerts urging local residents to steer clear of the fire area and telling anyone inside the warehouse to evacuate promptly.
Officials advised individuals with respiratory issues to stay indoors until the smoke has cleared.

Fire officials stated that the origins of the fire remain unclear. A comprehensive investigation will commence once the flames are fully extinguished and the scene is secured.

As of the latest updates, authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported. Firefighters are engaged in cooling measures to eliminate any remaining hotspots and avert potential flare-ups.
