Ben Stokes Urges England to Fight Back in Third Ashes Test

Ben Stokes Urges England to Fight Back in Third Ashes Test

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

England captain Ben Stokes has called on his team to show courage and determination as they prepare for the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, starting Tuesday. After losing the first two matches against Australia, Stokes urged his players to “show a bit of dog,” which he explained means fighting in every situation and giving their best for the team. He emphasized that understanding the situation and acting with courage is key to bouncing back in the series.

Stokes referred to England’s performance against India in July as a source of inspiration. In that match at Lord’s, England recovered from a loss to win by 22 runs. He highlighted how the team stayed focused, played perfectly under pressure, and demonstrated strong fighting spirit. Stokes believes that the same mindset can help England in the Ashes series despite being 2-0 down.

The captain reminded the players that they must win the next three matches to have any chance of taking the series. He said the team must stay mentally strong, support each other, and remain committed to every ball and every session. Stokes stressed that giving their maximum effort and maintaining a fighting attitude is crucial in facing a dominant Australian side.

He also noted that coming back from a 2-0 deficit in an Ashes series is extremely rare. Only one team in nearly 150 years of test cricket has done it: Australia under Don Bradman in 1936/37. This historical fact adds extra motivation for England to push harder in the remaining games.

With Stokes leading the charge, the England team is focused on improving performance, playing with courage, and showing resilience in the remaining Ashes matches. The third test in Adelaide will be a crucial opportunity for the team to fight back and keep the series alive.
