Tragic Pedestrian Fatality on Belleville Highway

A man in his seventies has lost his life following a collision with a vehicle near Belleville, as reported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The tragic incident took place on Old Highway 2 on Saturday night, prompting an ongoing inquiry by authorities.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. just west of Montrose Road. Upon their arrival, they found the man with critical injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the site. The identity of the deceased has yet to be disclosed by the authorities.

In the aftermath, a portion of Old Highway 2 remained closed for several hours as investigators scrutinized the area and collected evidence. It has since reopened to vehicular traffic.

The OPP are diligently probing the circumstances that led to the deadly incident, exploring what factors may have played a role in the collision. Information regarding the driver and the vehicle has not been shared at this moment.

Authorities are encouraging anyone who witnessed the accident or possesses video evidence to step forward as they strive to uncover the specifics of the incident.

This unfortunate event has heightened concerns regarding pedestrian safety in the vicinity, emphasizing the need for vigilant awareness on the roads.
