Fatal Train Incident Under Investigation in Richmond Hill

Authorities in York Region are examining a tragic incident that occurred on the evening of April 10, 2026, when a pedestrian was struck and fatally injured by a train in Richmond Hill.

The collision took place shortly after 6:30 p.m. at the Elgin Mills crossing, situated to the east of Yonge Street and just north of the Richmond Hill GO station. Emergency teams were dispatched following reports of the accident.

While officials confirmed the pedestrian's death at the scene, details regarding their identity and the specific circumstances surrounding the incident remain undisclosed. The investigation is ongoing as police seek to understand the events that transpired.

In the wake of this tragedy, GO Transit has reported cancellations of the last two northbound trains on the Richmond Hill line. Passengers are encouraged to utilize shuttle bus services to continue traveling to Gormley and Bloomington GO stations.

Investigators are urging the public to steer clear of the area as inquiries proceed. Further updates will be provided as new information is released.
