Security Alert Resolved at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming

Post by : Shweta

Evacuation and shelter orders have been lifted at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne after authorities resolved a reported security threat near Gate 1. Officials stated that there is no longer any active risk, although response teams remain on the scene as a precautionary measure.

The situation unfolded early Thursday morning with the discovery of a suspicious package at the base's main entrance, prompting a coordinated emergency response by various local agencies, including the Cheyenne Police Department and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

In response to the potential risk, a significant security perimeter was established, with personnel in several buildings instructed to shelter in place. Children at the Child Development Center were moved to a secure area as nearby residents were advised to evacuate temporarily. Officials remarked that these actions were purely precautionary, aimed at ensuring the safety of all.

The incident also led to substantial traffic disruptions, as a segment of Interstate 25 was closed for over an hour and several local roads were blocked off during the investigation. Visitors to the base were rerouted to different entry points throughout the response.

By late morning, officials confirmed that the suspicious package posed no threat. Evacuations were rescinded, roads reopened, and normal activities resumed at the base. However, Gate 1 remains closed as investigations continue.

This incident underscores the rigorous security measures adhered to by military installations, reflecting their commitment to safeguard personnel and the broader community against potential threats.
