Fortis Healthcare Acquires People Tree Hospital in Bengaluru for ₹4.3 Billion

Fortis Healthcare Acquires People Tree Hospital in Bengaluru for ₹4.3 Billion

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Fortis Healthcare, a prominent name in India’s healthcare sector, has revealed its intention to purchase People Tree Hospital in Bengaluru for ₹4.3 billion. This strategic acquisition is aimed at bolstering the company's presence throughout South India and enhancing its medical offerings in significant urban locales.

Situated in Yeshwantpur, a vital region in northwestern Bengaluru, the acquisition will be executed via Fortis’ wholly owned subsidiary, International Hospital. This entity will acquire 100% of TMI Healthcare, the operator of People Tree Hospital.

In addition to the acquisition costs, Fortis plans to invest approximately ₹4.1 billion into the hospital over a three-year period. These funds will facilitate upgrades in infrastructure, expand capacity, and enhance healthcare services.

Fortis believes this acquisition will enhance its revenue and profitability while solidifying its operations in Bengaluru. The city represents one of India’s rapidly evolving healthcare markets, with growing demands for quality medical facilities driven by population increases and greater private healthcare access.

People Tree Hospital is a recognized multi-specialty facility in Bengaluru. By integrating it within the Fortis network, the aim is to elevate clinical standards, broaden specialized services, and draw in more patients.

Partially owned by Malaysia's IHH Healthcare, a leading global healthcare provider, Fortis operates 33 healthcare facilities across 11 states in India, providing over 5,700 beds.

Fortis has been pursuing aggressive expansion strategies in recent years. Recently, CEO Ashutosh Raghuvanshi indicated plans to invest ₹7 billion over the next four years to broaden hospital services, particularly in Bengaluru, Mumbai, the National Capital Region, and Punjab.

Experts in the healthcare industry suggest that consolidation in this sector is on the rise, as major hospital chains prefer acquiring well-established facilities over starting new ones from the ground up. Such acquisitions can enhance efficiencies, standardize patient care, and increase access to advanced medical technologies.

Patients in Bengaluru could see improved access to specialized treatments and modernized infrastructure due to the Fortis acquisition. For Fortis, this strategic move strengthens its competitive positioning in the healthcare market and aligns with its long-term expansion goals.

With the continuous rising demand for private healthcare in India, especially within urban centers, Fortis’ current acquisition reflects its commitment to being a formidable player in the country's evolving healthcare landscape.
