The Oklahoma City Thunder are the new NBA champions. They beat the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 of the Finals on Sunday night. This is the team’s first title since moving from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) this season, led the Thunder once again. He scored 29 points and gave 12 assists, helping his team win in front of loud and proud fans at the Paycom Center.
The game started with bad news for the Pacers. Their star point guard, Tyrese Haliburton, got injured in the first quarter and had to leave the game. He hurt his Achilles, and without him, the Pacers struggled for the rest of the night.
In the second half, the Thunder’s defence got even stronger. They didn’t give the Pacers many chances and stayed in control until the end.
Even though both teams are from smaller cities and didn’t have many big stars, the series was full of excitement. The Pacers, who were not expected to reach this far, gave a tough fight and pushed the Finals to a do-or-die Game 7.
This win is a big moment for Oklahoma City. After years of rebuilding and waiting, the team and its fans finally have a championship to celebrate.
