Nine Injured in High-Speed Pursuit Crash in Jeli, Kelantan

Post by : Shakul

A high-speed pursuit in Jeli, Kelantan, resulted in injuries to nine men after a suspected migrant smuggling operation went awry on Thursday. Three individuals, including a Malaysian man linked to the illegal transportation of undocumented migrants, sustained serious injuries.

The incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. along Jalan Bukit Cermin when a General Operations Force patrol team spotted a suspicious Proton Saga on the East-West Highway. Authorities suspected it was carrying unauthorized foreign nationals.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain, commander of the Southeast Brigade General Operations Force, mentioned that the driver attempted to evade officers, igniting a high-speed chase as the vehicle sped away.

The driver lost control near Kampung Sungai Rual, leading to a crash against a roadside embankment. Emergency services quickly responded to aid the injured and secured the crash site.

Officers apprehended the 21-year-old Malaysian driver and eight Bangladeshi men aged 20 to 40. All those injured were promptly taken to Jeli Hospital for treatment, while several suspects were moved to the district police headquarters for further inquiries.

During a vehicle inspection, officials found ten yaba pills suspected to contain methamphetamine. Investigators are probing if the incident is linked to broader criminal activities related to migrant trafficking and drug possession.

This operation illustrates ongoing efforts to combat cross-border migrant smuggling networks in the area. Law enforcement continues to enhance patrols and monitoring along routes known for illegal transportation near Malaysia’s northern borders.

The case is currently under investigation concerning migrant smuggling and drug-related offences, with police not ruling out further arrests as inquiries into the larger network linked to this incident persist.
