Police Name 18-Year-Old Victim of Shooting in Surrey

Post by : Shweta

Homicide investigators have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Surrey, British Columbia, as Gaurav Deol, an 18-year-old man. The police hope that releasing his name will encourage anyone with potential new information to assist in their investigation into the tragedy.

The shooting took place during the early hours of Sunday near the intersection of 138 Street and 62 Avenue. Responding officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole; inside, they discovered Deol with critical gunshot injuries. Despite the swift life-saving measures from first responders, he was declared dead at the scene.

In a related development, investigators reported a vehicle fire in another Surrey location shortly after the shooting. They subsequently discovered a burned white Toyota SUV, believed to have some connection to the shooting, which is under investigation. Authorities are piecing together the full timeline leading up to the tragic event.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now overseeing the case in collaboration with the Surrey Police Service, forensic teams, and the BC Coroners Service. Investigators have noted that this shooting appears to be a targeted act rather than random violence. However, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been disclosed yet.

By releasing Deol's identity, police hope to gather insights regarding his recent whereabouts, relationships, and activities prior to the shooting. Detectives are actively engaging with family members and friends and are reviewing surveillance footage and evidence gathered from various locations. The case remains open, with authorities calling on the public for information.

Specifically, police are eager to hear from anyone who may have been near the shooting scene or the related vehicle fire late Saturday into early Sunday. Dashcam recordings, security footage, and witness testimonies could be pivotal in identifying those accountable.

The community has reacted with shock over the death of this young resident, which adds to ongoing concerns regarding violent crime in Metro Vancouver. Investigators assert they are committed to pursuing every lead to uncover the individuals behind this homicide. Those with leads are encouraged to reach out to IHIT or Crime Stoppers.
