India at 96/1 Against Afghanistan During Lunch Break in Test Match

Post by : Shakul

India embarked on a promising note in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, reaching 96 for the loss of one wicket at lunch on the opening day in New Chandigarh. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the home team quickly settled into their innings despite an early hiccup, resulting in a solid foundation built by KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan’s partnership.

The opening duo, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, provided a balanced start, accumulating 41 runs before losing the first wicket. Both players appeared at ease against the opposition bowlers, effectively rotating the strike while capitalizing on any loose deliveries.

Rahul notably had a lucky escape during the session, having edged a ball that went unnoticed by the on-field umpire. Afghanistan, opting not to review the decision, allowed him to continue, which he took full advantage of, displaying growing confidence.

Jaiswal, who scored 24 runs from 32 balls with five boundaries, impressed during his innings. However, Afghanistan managed to secure a breakthrough when Saleem Safi drew an edge that was safely caught behind, ending the promising partnership.

After Jaiswal's dismissal, Sai Sudharsan partnered with Rahul and ensured no further wickets fell. The two settled in quickly, showing excellent discipline and frustrated the Afghan bowlers, stabilizing India's innings and firmly establishing momentum.

At the luncheon break, Rahul stood unbeaten on 37, while Sudharsan notched 32. Both showed remarkable control, placing India in a strong spot after the first session. While the Afghanistan bowlers showcased flashes of talent, they struggled to maintain consistent pressure after the early wicket.

This match represents the second Test encounter between India and Afghanistan, following their previous clash in 2018, where India achieved a convincing innings victory in Afghanistan's inaugural Test. As the game progresses in New Chandigarh, India aims to bolster their first-innings total while Afghanistan continues to seek further breakthroughs to regain equilibrium.
