Odesa Experiences Russian Drone Strike, Four Injured Including Children

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Overnight, a Russian drone attack targeted the southern region of Odesa in Ukraine, resulting in injuries to four people, including three children, as reported by Ukrainian officials. The assault caused damage to residential buildings and vital infrastructure, emphasizing the ongoing toll on civilians amidst the prolonged war.

According to local authorities, the incident occurred late at night when residents were at home. Odesa, a strategic port city on the Black Sea, has consistently been subjected to Russian missile and drone strikes since the outbreak of hostilities nearly four years ago.

Oleh Kiper, governor of the Odesa region, stated that drones struck residential areas, logistics centers, and energy facilities. He noted that drone debris and direct hits resulted in significant damage to several buildings, shattering windows and affecting building exteriors.

Serhiy Lisak, the head of the city's military administration, affirmed that four individuals sustained injuries, including a seven-month-old infant, two other children, and a 42-year-old man. All were taken to receive medical treatment. Further details regarding their conditions were not provided, but emergency response teams were swift in their actions.

Images released by local officials depicted smoke emanating from a high-rise apartment during the night, with flames visible as firefighters fought to control the blaze. Water was being used to prevent the fire's spread.

Odesa has endured frequent assaults throughout the ongoing conflict. Russian strikes have repeatedly targeted ports, energy infrastructure, and transport routes crucial for Ukraine's economy, while residential areas also suffer from the strikes, instilling fear and distress among civilians far removed from the frontline.

Authorities in Ukraine emphasized that this latest attack illustrates the persistent risks facing ordinary families, with children being among the most affected by the conflict.

Reuters has yet to independently verify these accounts, and there was immediate feedback from Russia regarding the strike.

As fighting persists, residents in cities like Odesa remain vigilant, yearning for peace while enduring yet another turbulent night marked by the sounds of drones and explosions.
