Iran Accuses US of Civilian Casualties in Wedding Attack
Iran has condemned the United States, claiming that a recent missile strike resulted in civilian deaths at a wedding in southern Iran. Officials reported that four individuals, including two children, lost their lives as a result of shrapnel damage to a residential building in Kuhestak, located in the Sirik region of Hormozgan province.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that 67 others were injured in the incident. Initially, Iranian media estimated a higher casualty count, but updates confirmed four deaths: Zarkhatoon Taheri, 50, Kolsum Mallahi Nazhdnia, 43, Mohammad Mallahi, 16, and Amirali Karimi, four.
Tragedy Strikes During Wedding Festivities
The father of the bride, Ali Mallahi, recounted that the tragedy occurred during his daughter's wedding. Images released by the Iranian Red Crescent depicted the wreckage of the building where the ceremony was held.
Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, condemned the incident as a war crime, while officials in Iran pointed fingers at the United States. Washington, on its part, denied targeting any civilians.
US Defense Claims No Intentional Civilian Targets
US Central Command acknowledged the Iranian state media's reports about the event in Sirik. Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for Centcom, reiterated that the US military's operations do not involve targeting civilians.
The US has emphasized that its latest military actions were aimed at facilities linked to military operations and were in response to earlier threats from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against American interests in the Strait of Hormuz.
Continued Reports of Fatalities in Iran
Beyond the wedding strike, Iranian authorities also detailed additional fatalities from US attacks in other regions. State media highlighted that seven more were reported dead in strikes near Ahvaz and Aqajari in Khuzestan province.
Reports from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps indicated that four of its aerospace force members lost their lives in Kermanshah, while three Basij paramilitary members were killed on Lavan Island. These incidents coincide with rising tensions and a cycle of retaliatory actions between the two nations.
Iran Responds with Missile and Drone Strikes
In retaliation, Iranian forces claimed to have launched missile and drone strikes targeting US-affiliated sites in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, and the UAE.
Jordanian sources reported intercepting 13 ballistic missiles, with 10 confirmed destroyed. Additionally, Kuwait reported a drone strike that caused a fire in a residential area but resulted in no casualties.
Strait of Hormuz Remains a Flashpoint
The rising conflict has intensified concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international maritime route for global oil and gas trade.
Iran has previously targeted vessels it claims violated its territorial waters, while the US continues to impose measures against Iranian shipping, escalating maritime tensions and posing risks to energy supplies.

Failed Agreements Intensify Hostilities
The renewed conflict emerged shortly after the collapse of a joint understanding between the United States and Iran that aimed at curbing hostilities and resuming maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz, while facilitating discussions on Iran’s nuclear agenda.
The pact dissolved within weeks, leading to increased military actions from both nations.
Civilian Casualty Claims Under Examination
The allegations surrounding the wedding casualties have drawn significant scrutiny. While Iran asserts that civilians were killed during celebratory events, the US maintains that such actions were not deliberate.
Independent investigations into the weapon used and the events leading to the deaths remain crucial. Recent analyses from the BBC indicate that evidence leans toward a US JSOW weapon, though ambiguity persists.
