Israeli Strikes in Gaza Kill 8, Including Two Children, Health Officials Say

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Israeli airstrikes in southern and central Gaza killed at least eight Palestinians, including two children, and injured more than 20 others on Monday, according to health officials and emergency services in the enclave.

The strikes occurred in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah, where several tents sheltering displaced families were hit.

Mother and Child Killed in Khan Younis Strike

In the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, a strike hit a tent after residents reportedly received a warning call. Officials at Nasser Hospital said a 23-year-old woman and her 1-year-old daughter were killed.

Another strike in the nearby town of Qarara killed a 31-year-old man, according to hospital authorities. They said he had married only months earlier and left behind a pregnant wife.

In a separate incident along the Khan Younis coast, a strike hit another tent sheltering displaced people, killing two people and wounding 13 others. The injured were transferred to a field hospital operated by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Drone Strike in Deir al-Balah Kills Three

In central Gaza, a drone strike struck a tent in Deir al-Balah, killing three Palestinians, including an 8-year-old boy and his grandfather, medical officials said.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital identified two of the victims as Hassan al-Hanagra and his grandson Malik Abu Shawish. Hospital officials said the child had been visiting his mother’s tent when the strike occurred. His mother was among seven people wounded.

The Israeli military said the strike was targeting a militant but did not immediately provide a name or confirm whether the target was killed.

Israeli Military Says It Targeted Militants

Israel said a separate strike on Sunday killed Zaher Abu Salem, whom it described as a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad involved in the October 7 attacks on Israel.

Four people were reported killed in strikes across Gaza on Sunday, including a 13-year-old girl, Eileen al-Farra, who was fatally injured by shrapnel from Israeli tank shelling.

Casualty Figures Since the Ceasefire

According to Gaza health officials, Israeli forces have continued near-daily strikes despite a ceasefire that took effect in October. They say 1,045 Palestinians have been killed since then, including more than 360 women and children.

Israel says it is targeting militants who pose a threat to Israeli troops, which currently control more than 60% of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military says five Israeli soldiers have been killed in militant attacks since the ceasefire began.

West Bank Teen Reported Killed Near Ramallah

Separately, the Palestinian Health Ministry said a 15-year-old boy from Jerusalem was killed by a gunshot to the head during an Israeli raid near Ramallah.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said emergency crews attempted to resuscitate Amir Jaber before transporting him to a hospital. Two other people were reported injured during a separate raid near Hebron.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.

Gaza War Death Toll

The Gaza Health Ministry says more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in October 2023, including those killed after the ceasefire. Israel says the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, killed about 1,200 people and resulted in 251 hostages being taken into Gaza.
