Jaishankar Praises BRICS Summit 2026

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has praised the successful conclusion of the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, saying the event demonstrated India’s strong convening power on the global stage. He highlighted the participation of heads of state and senior representatives from BRICS member and partner countries.

BRICS Summit Held Amid Global Tensions

Jaishankar said the summit took place at a time when the world remains deeply polarised, with major conflicts and competing geopolitical interests. Despite these challenges, participating countries were able to reach common ground on several critical issues affecting international peace and stability.

Countries Call for Peace and Global Stability

According to Jaishankar, the summit produced a statement calling for peace, security, stability and long-term understanding. The participating countries also emphasised the importance of maintaining the smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy while protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

32 Delegations Participate in Summit

Jaishankar said the summit brought together 32 delegations, representing 11 member states, 10 partner states, four regional organisations and seven international organisations. He said the broad participation demonstrated the importance of BRICS as a platform for dialogue amid growing geopolitical divisions.

Consensus Reached on West Asia Conflict

The External Affairs Minister highlighted the ability of BRICS countries to reach consensus on what he described as one of the toughest issues of the day, the West Asia conflict. He said the discussions reflected the importance of dialogue, peace and stability despite differing national positions and interests.

BRICS Condemns Terrorism

Jaishankar said BRICS countries made clear that any act of terrorism is a criminal act. He also said the summit explicitly recognised the unacceptability of the Pahalgam attack and stressed the need for a strong and consistent response to terrorism.

Zero Tolerance for Terrorism

The External Affairs Minister said BRICS reaffirmed a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and rejected double standards in efforts to counter it. The outcome, he said, demonstrated that countries can work toward consensus on difficult international issues even during periods of major geopolitical tension.
