K2 and WeRide Unite for Autonomous Bus Initiative in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Abu Dhabi: At UMEX 2026, K2 and WeRide have forged a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly roll out autonomous buses in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is backed by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The collaboration aims to realize Abu Dhabi's aspirations for smart mobility by facilitating the real-time implementation of autonomous public transport systems. It further solidifies the emirate's standing as a forefront player in global sustainable transportation solutions.

Waleed Alblooshi, Vice President of Strategy at K2, emphasized the significance of collaboration in advancing a future where autonomous technologies operate efficiently and sustainably. He noted that K2 will bring local knowledge, fleet management expertise, and insights from real-world mobility deployments to the partnership.

Ryan Zhan, Regional General Manager of Middle East and Africa at WeRide, remarked that this MoU signifies a transformative phase for the company within the region. He elaborated that the fusion of WeRide’s Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities with K2’s local insights will quicken the pace towards safer and smarter public transport solutions in the UAE and the broader Middle East.

K2 comes equipped with substantial expertise in autonomous mobility, with its subsidiaries having tested robotaxis and last-mile delivery strategies over vast distances.
