Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

India began their first-innings confidently in the opening Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. By lunch on day two, the team reached 218 for 3, gaining a 56-run lead over the visitors. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 100, while Dhruv Jurel contributed 14 runs, ensuring India retained control early in the match.

Shubman Gill Shows Solid Form

India captain Shubman Gill played a steady innings, scoring 50 runs before being dismissed in the morning session. His performance provided stability at the top order, allowing Rahul to build his innings with confidence. Gill played aggressively at times, taking on bowlers like Justin Greaves and Johann Layne, adding crucial runs for India.

KL Rahul Anchors the Innings

Rahul’s century marked his 11th in Test cricket, achieved through a series of intelligent shots. He punished debutant spinner Khary Pierre with two well-timed boundaries in a single over and found gaps through the offside and mid-wicket areas. His experience and composure helped India steadily extend their first-innings lead.

Crucial Contributions and Partnerships

The partnership between Rahul and Jurel has been vital in maintaining momentum. Rahul’s ability to rotate the strike and punish loose deliveries kept India ahead, while the young Jurel supported well at the other end. Together, they have given India a strong platform to post a competitive total.

India Gains Advantage Over West Indies

With West Indies bowled out for 162 on Thursday, India now holds a crucial advantage. Rahul’s fluent knock has set the stage for India to build a large first-innings total. His century highlights the importance of experienced batting in anchoring the innings and guiding the team toward a commanding position.

As the Test progresses, India aims to capitalize on their lead and put pressure on the West Indies. Rahul continues to play with authority, showcasing both technique and temperament. His innings not only secures runs but also inspires confidence throughout the batting lineup, reinforcing India’s chances of dominating the opening Test.
