Kriti Sanon Says Her Character In Tere Ishk Mein Is Negative

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Kriti Sanon was recently seen in Aanand L. Rai’s romantic drama film Tere Ishk Mein opposite Dhanush, which released in theatres last month. The film received positive responses, with both actors praised for their performances. Kriti played the role of Mukti Beniwal, a character that sparked discussion among audiences.

In an interview, Kriti shared that her first reaction to Mukti was not positive. She said that after reading the script, she felt the character appeared completely negative and selfish. Feeling uncomfortable, she called director Aanand L. Rai and clearly told him that she did not like the character and felt anxious about playing her.

However, Kriti explained that the director saw Mukti very differently. According to her, Aanand L. Rai imagined layers of vulnerability, empathy, and emotional depth that were not clearly written on paper. Each time they discussed scenes, she realized that his vision of the character was far deeper than what she initially understood from the script.

Kriti admitted that this was the only role she did not prepare for in the usual way. She said she discovered the character while shooting the film itself. Over time, she began to appreciate Mukti’s flaws and felt it was refreshing to play someone imperfect and emotionally complex.

After the release, some viewers described Mukti as “toxic” or a “red flag.” Reacting to this, Kriti said such debates are important because human behavior is not always right or wrong. She explained that people make mistakes for reasons, and a character should be judged with empathy rather than labels.
