His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, led the inaugural meeting of 2026 at Dubai Media. The primary focus of the meeting was to evaluate Dubai Media’s strategies and future initiatives aimed at reinforcing Dubai’s status as a front-runner in the global media sector and creative economy.
During the assembly, Sheikh Ahmed greenlit Dubai+, an innovative digital platform designed to deliver a variety of media content for audiences of all ages. This platform aligns with evolving digital trends and the rising desire for both local and international entertainment options. With an array of Arab and international films and series, Dubai+ seeks to bolster Dubai’s standing as a central hub for content creation and distribution in the region.
The Council also explored additional strategies to fortify local film production and promote cinema as a vital sector of cultural and creative industries. Samr Al Marzooqi, Director of Films and Production at the Dubai Media Council, shared upcoming plans designed to aid the film industry, nurture creative talent, and highlight both Emirati and global filmmakers.
The meeting included discussions on the forthcoming UAE–Kuwait Media Celebration, orchestrated by the Dubai Press Club under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the support of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The event aspires to bolster media collaboration and cultural links between the UAE and Kuwait.
Council members were also informed of significant national and community initiatives spearheaded by Brand Dubai in 2025, such as the #ZayedAndRashid campaign and the Hatta Winter initiative under the #DubaiDestinations campaign.
Additionally, Sheikh Ahmed reviewed cutting-edge external broadcasting technologies introduced by Dubai Media and its partners, which include systems debuting for the first time in the Middle East.
Sheikh Ahmed underscored the vital role of media in shaping public understanding, advancing development, and fostering trust. He emphasized the need for investing in human talent, empowering youth, leveraging AI and technology, and attracting specialized investments to accelerate Dubai's media growth.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, assured that the Council will implement strategic initiatives with defined governance and measurable outcomes. Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Council, added that there will be ongoing efforts to enhance content creation, bolster storytelling skills, and invest in talent and state-of-the-art production technologies for sustainable growth.
