Liverpool Face Worst Season Run After Heavy PSV Defeat

Liverpool Face Worst Season Run After Heavy PSV Defeat

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Liverpool began their season with seven straight wins, raising hopes of another strong Premier League title defence and a deep Champions League run. But those early dreams have faded quickly. The team is now experiencing their worst performance streak in 71 years after a painful 4-1 loss to PSV at Anfield, a stadium usually known for its strong home advantage.

Liverpool have now lost nine out of their last twelve matches, something that has not happened since the 1953-54 season. This includes three straight defeats across all competitions, each by a margin of three goals. Even more worrying for fans, the team has conceded seven goals in just five days at home, a place where they usually dominate visiting teams.

Midfielder Curtis Jones admitted after the match that the players are struggling to understand the team’s sudden collapse. Speaking to RTE, he said he was shocked by the situation and could not explain what had gone wrong. He added that he was past feeling angry and now felt lost for words. This reaction reflects the confusion and frustration inside the squad as they try to cope with this difficult period.

Liverpool supporters were full of excitement when Arne Slot, in his first season, guided the team to a Premier League title. But now, many fans are wondering whether he is still the right person to lead the club. With results worsening every week, questions are growing about the manager’s tactics, team selection, and ability to turn things around.

Slot is now under heavy pressure as he searches for a way to stop this downward spiral. Former Liverpool full-back Stephen Warnock told BBC Sport that the team’s struggles are becoming increasingly difficult to watch. He said that the situation feels “very difficult” and that each new defeat adds to the pressure, making it harder for the team to recover.

Warnock also mentioned that it is hard to understand why the team is performing so poorly. He questioned whether over-confidence from earlier wins may have played a role but admitted that the real cause is unclear. What worries fans the most is the noticeable drop in energy, commitment, and fight from the players. According to Warnock, the lack of intensity is one of the most troubling signs during this tough period.

Liverpool now face a crucial moment. If their form does not improve soon, their hopes for league success or deep runs in European competitions could disappear completely. With the team’s weaknesses now exposed, the coaching staff must find quick solutions. Fitness, motivation, strategy, and teamwork will all need to improve if Liverpool want to save their season.

As the losses pile up, Liverpool must regroup mentally and physically. Arne Slot now faces one of the biggest challenges of his managerial career. Whether he can turn things around remains uncertain. For now, fans are left hoping that the team will rediscover their confidence and fight before the season slips further out of reach.
