M42 and Arcera Forge Partnership to Elevate Biopharma in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Bianca Haleem

M42 and Arcera Life Sciences have formalized their cooperation with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) intended to establish a strategic and flexible partnership that promotes biopharma localization, clinical advancements, and innovative healthcare solutions in Abu Dhabi.

This collaboration aligns with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi's vision to position the emirate as a leading hub for life sciences innovation. The initiative promises to foster a comprehensive life sciences ecosystem that prioritizes clinical advancements and offers innovative treatments for genetic and rare ailments.

In this partnership, Arcera will collaborate with M42 to leverage genomics data for analyzing the prevalence of selected genetic and rare diseases. This synergy merges insights from genomics, supported by DoH initiatives, with M42's sophisticated data capabilities and Arcera's late-stage drug development expertise.

The goal is to expedite the availability of groundbreaking therapies and enhance patient access to advanced treatment options in the region.

The collaboration focuses on four strategic pillars.

Firstly, there is a commitment to genomics-informed therapeutic development. By utilizing genomic data from national health and research initiatives, combined with M42's advanced technology and Arcera’s drug development prowess, the partners aim to promote precision medicine and the next generation of treatments, including cell and gene therapies.

Secondly, the partnership will accelerate clinical development with an emphasis on advancing late-phase trials, generating reliable evidence, and widening access to innovative therapies.

The third pillar pertains to advanced biobanking, stem cell therapies, and regenerative medicine, leveraging resources such as the Abu Dhabi Biobank to catalyze breakthrough therapeutic innovations.

The fourth pillar focuses on digital transformation and AI integration. Both entities will explore adopting cutting-edge technologies throughout the life sciences value chain to boost efficiency in development and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s commitment to AI-driven healthcare.

These initiatives not only aim to create immediate collaboration opportunities but also lay the groundwork for sustained growth in Abu Dhabi’s health and life sciences landscape.

Under this agreement, M42 and Arcera will establish a framework to identify collaboration opportunities, assess priority projects, and facilitate joint development and commercialization efforts.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at DoH, noted that initiatives in regulation, health data infrastructure, and genomics research are fostering an environment conducive to accelerated biopharma development, ultimately benefiting the future of treatments for genetic and rare diseases.

Dr. Fahad Al Marzooqi, the CEO of M42 Integrated Health Solutions, emphasized that this partnership represents M42’s dedication to enhancing Abu Dhabi’s life sciences ecosystem through impactful collaborations. The integration of M42’s AI and healthcare capabilities with Arcera’s expertise will advance biopharma capacities and broaden clinical development horizons.

Isabel Afonso, CEO of Arcera Life Sciences, highlighted that this collaboration illustrates the strength of the local ecosystem by uniting innovation, manufacturing, and patient access to drive sustainable healthcare outcomes.
