Major Contraband Bust at Cowansville Prison in Quebec

Post by : Shweta

A significant haul of contraband and unauthorized materials has been confiscated at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal prison located in Quebec, as stated by Correctional Service Canada. These seizures occurred during April 12 and 13, 2026, driven by heightened vigilance from the prison staff.

Items seized included illegal narcotics such as cocaine, crystal meth, hashish, and cannabis concentrates. Additionally, tobacco products and a mobile phone with accessories were found. The total estimated value of these items is approximately $128,434, showcasing the extent of contraband activities taking place within the prison.

Correctional officials have affirmed that several security measures are employed to combat the infiltration of such items into the facility. These measures comprise advanced detection technologies like ion scanners and specially trained drug-sniffing dogs, which examine buildings, visitors, inmates, and personal effects.

Furthermore, the agency stressed that efforts to bolster safety and maintain order within correctional facilities are ongoing. They confirmed their collaboration with law enforcement to identify and prosecute individuals involved in smuggling prohibited items into prisons.

Officials also encourage the public to report any suspicious behavior that could compromise prison security. A confidential, toll-free tip line has been set up, enabling individuals to anonymously provide information that aids in preventing drug trafficking and enhancing the safety of staff, inmates, and visitors.
