The Manama Open Tennis Championship continued its exciting second week with strong, competitive matches in the round of 32. The tournament is organised by the Bahrain Tennis Federation and is being held from November 10 to 17. All matches take place on the courts of the Public Security Officers Club in Qudaibiya. The event attracts players from many countries, making it a truly international tennis competition that showcases rising and experienced talents.
Several important matches were completed yesterday, starting with a solid performance by Syrian player Hazem Naw. He secured a straight-set victory over Russia’s Pavel Verbin, winning 6-3, 6-4. Naw’s strong serve and confident movement on the court gave him the advantage throughout the match. His win places him in a good position as the tournament progresses into the later rounds.
In one of the more dramatic matches, Germany’s Maximilian Homberg defeated Bulgaria’s Petr Nesterov in three hard-fought sets. After losing the first set 4-6, Homberg returned with greater focus and energy, taking the next two sets 6-3, 6-4. The long rallies and powerful groundstrokes from both players made this match one of the most intense contests of the day.
Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin delivered a dominant performance, beating Ukraine’s Volodymyr Yakubenko 6-2, 6-2. Fomin’s confident play and fast pace allowed him to control every game. His quick victory showed his readiness to move deeper into the tournament, and he remains one of the players to watch in the upcoming rounds.
Romania’s Vladislav Melnik came back from a set down to defeat Kuwait’s Essa Qabazard. After losing the first set 3-6, Melnik fought hard to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-3. His improved accuracy and endurance helped him turn the match in his favor. In another match, Ireland’s Kian Maguire won convincingly against India’s Aniketh Venkataraman with a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory, showing complete control.
Several German players displayed excellent form. Nino Ehrenschneider beat Australia’s Benjamin O’Connell 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 in a tough three-set match. Olaf Pieczkowski also secured a strong straight-set win over the United Kingdom’s Zaid Stephens, finishing 6-3, 6-2. Another German player, Calvin Mueller, defeated Senegal’s Seydina Andre 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 in a long and tense match that tested both players’ stamina and focus.
In another exciting match, the Netherlands’ Jelle Sels won against France’s Nicolas Gaidon after three sets, taking the match 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-1. Russia’s Timofei Derepasko advanced to the next round after Georgia’s Aleksandre Bakshi had to withdraw due to injury. Spain’s Ivan Marrero also secured a victory, beating South Africa’s Leo Matthyson 6-4, 6-1.
The doubles matches also provided strong performances. Germany’s Richard Antoni and Calvin Mueller teamed up to beat the German-American and Indian pair Anirudh Rao and Aniketh with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win. Their teamwork and strong net play were key to their quick success.
