The Atlanta Falcons have received encouraging news about the recovery of two key players—quarterback Michael Penix and wide receiver Drake London. Both players are making steady progress and could soon return to action, head coach Raheem Morris confirmed on Wednesday. Their return would provide a much-needed boost to the Falcons’ offense after a disappointing 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins last weekend.
Speaking to reporters, Coach Morris said that Penix has shown visible improvement after suffering a bone bruise on his knee during the Falcons’ 20-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on October 19. “Michael is in the building, in meetings, and participating in walk-throughs,” Morris said. “We’ll evaluate how much he can do in practice today, but he’s feeling better every day.” The coach expressed optimism that the young quarterback’s recovery is on track.
Penix, 25, sustained the knee injury two weeks ago but managed to play through it during the entire game against the 49ers. In that match, he completed 21 of 38 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown. Over the course of the season, he has started six games, completing 61 percent of his passes for 1,409 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. The young quarterback has also contributed one rushing touchdown, showing his versatility and athleticism.
In Penix’s absence, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins stepped in as the starter against the Dolphins. However, the 37-year-old struggled to lead the offense effectively, completing 21 of 31 passes for just 173 yards. The Falcons’ attack lacked rhythm and consistency, leading to one of their biggest defeats of the season. Coach Morris acknowledged that the offense needs Penix’s energy and playmaking ability to bounce back.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Drake London, who missed the Dolphins game due to a hip injury, is also showing signs of recovery. The 24-year-old was initially not listed with any injury concerns last Friday but was downgraded to “questionable” on Saturday and eventually ruled out on Sunday. Coach Morris confirmed that London is expected to participate in practice this week and could return soon if he continues to progress.
Drake London has been one of the most consistent performers for the Falcons this season. He leads the team in both receptions (38) and receiving yards (469) and is tied with running back Bijan Robinson for most touchdown catches (two). His strong performances have made him a reliable target for both Penix and Cousins, and his return could greatly improve Atlanta’s offensive production.
The Falcons’ latest injury report also included several other players. Wide receiver Darnell Mooney (hamstring), safety Jessie Bates III (knee), tight end Kyle Pitts (ankle), edge rusher Jalon Walker (groin), and cornerback Billy Bowman Jr. (hamstring) were all listed as limited participants in practice. Offensive lineman Storm Norton (foot) completed a full practice session, indicating he may be fit for the next game. However, edge rusher Leonard Floyd (hamstring), receiver Casey Washington (back), and defensive lineman Zach Harrison (knee) did not practice.
The Falcons are aiming to regain momentum after a challenging few weeks. Their offense has struggled without key starters, and the defense has faced pressure from strong opponents. The possible return of Penix and London could bring stability and energy to the team ahead of their upcoming fixtures. Coach Morris emphasized the importance of player health, saying that the team will not rush anyone back before they are fully ready.
As the Falcons prepare for their next matchup, their focus remains on recovery and improvement. Penix’s mobility and London’s receiving skills are vital to the Falcons’ offensive game plan. If both players are cleared to play, Atlanta will have a stronger chance of turning their season around and pushing for a playoff spot.
