Body of Missing USF Student Discovered; Roommate Arrested

Post by : Shweta

In a shocking turn of events, law enforcement in Florida has confirmed that the body of one of the two missing students from the University of South Florida has been located, while the search persists for the second individual. This situation has alarmed the local community, raising profound concerns about safety.

The remains identified as 27-year-old Zamil Limon were discovered on the Howard Frankland Bridge, a major route in the Tampa Bay region. The body was found on Friday morning after an extended investigation.

Authorities have arrested Limon's roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeih, who faces multiple preliminary charges that include domestic violence, battery, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, failure to report a death, and unlawful removal of a body. The exact circumstances surrounding the situation remain unclear as the investigation is still ongoing.

This incident began when Limon and his partner, Nahida Bristy, also 27, were reported missing on April 16. The couple, originally from Bangladesh, were both pursuing doctoral studies; Limon focused on geography and environmental policy while Bristy studied chemical engineering.

Limon was last seen in their student housing, and Bristy was spotted approximately an hour later at a science building on campus. Concern escalated when a family friend, unable to reach them, reported their disappearance to the authorities.

Responding to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence close to the university, police arrived to find and safely extricate family members of the accused. The suspect initially communicated with law enforcement but later ceased contact and barricaded himself inside the residence.

A SWAT team was dispatched to the scene, and after a period of negotiation, the individual surrendered peacefully, leading to his arrest without further incident.

Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and efforts continue to locate Nahida Bristy, who is still missing. They encourage anyone with information to step forward to aid in the search.

This tragic case has profoundly impacted the university community, underscoring the urgent need for prompt reporting and intervention in cases that may involve violence.
