His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, recently inspected the Jumeirah Beach 1 project, which is nearing 95% completion. This initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s efforts to upgrade beach infrastructure and elevate the coastal experience.
During the inspection, His Highness was joined by key officials including His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; His Excellency Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning in Dubai.
His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, provided updates on the project's status, indicating that more than 95% of the construction has been completed. Spanning 1,400 meters, the redevelopment focuses on enhancing the beach's infrastructure and amenities.
The beach is set to welcome visitors again in early February, featuring an integrated coastal experience. New additions include modern sports and recreational facilities, as well as pedestrian, cycling, and jogging pathways aimed at supporting a healthy, active lifestyle for the community.
Emphasizing Dubai's commitment to leadership in sustainable urban planning, Sheikh Hamdan stated that infrastructure projects are crucial for enhancing the quality of life in the city. He said, “Our aim is to create a smart city with sustainable infrastructure and top-notch public spaces, ensuring a high quality of life for all.”
The Jumeirah Beach 1 initiative aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the Urban Master Plan 2040, both prioritizing coastal enhancement and mobility.
Upgraded facilities will include international-standard restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, alongside designated areas for beach activities, seasonal events, parking, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The project also supports Dubai Municipality’s smart beach initiative, utilizing advanced technologies like free Wi-Fi, interactive displays, smart lockers, and AI-driven monitoring systems connected to control centers.
Climate resilience is a key component of this redevelopment. Measures taken include raising the beach and introducing 250,000 cubic meters of clean sand to protect against sea level rise and ensure long-term sustainability.
Additionally, the project creates over 15 investment opportunities across retail and dining sectors, enhancing economic development and the beach tourism sector in Dubai.
The Jumeirah Beach 1 project exemplifies Dubai Municipality’s vision of transforming public beaches into vibrant urban environments that foster community well-being, solidifying Dubai’s status as a premier destination for living, working, and visiting.
