MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has been included in the ICC Hall of Fame! The International Cricket Council (ICC) made this announcement on Monday. Along with Dhoni, other famous cricketers like Matthew Hayden from Australia, Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith from South Africa, and Daniel Vettori from New Zealand have also been honored. For women’s cricket, Sarah Taylor from England and Sana Mir from Pakistan have been added to this special group.
Dhoni played a huge number of matches for India—538 in total across all formats. He scored 17,266 international runs and made 829 dismissals (catches and stumpings). The ICC praised Dhoni for his excellent skills, fitness, and ability to perform well for a long time.
Dhoni said he feels very proud to be in the ICC Hall of Fame, where his name will be remembered with other cricket legends. He called it a special feeling that he will always treasure.
Dhoni is the only Indian captain who led the team to victory in the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy. Under his leadership, India also became the number one team in Test cricket. Even though Dhoni, who is now 43, has retired from international cricket, he still plays in the IPL.
The ICC also talked about how Dhoni became captain for the first T20 World Cup in 2007. At that time, India’s team was young and not expected to win. But Dhoni led them well, and players like Rohit Sharma, RP Singh, Robin Uthappa, and Dinesh Karthik played without fear. India surprised everyone by winning the tournament after beating Pakistan in a very exciting final.
