India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and former India men’s allrounder Yuvraj Singh were honoured at the New Chandigarh Stadium with stands named after them. The ceremony took place before the second men’s T20I between India and South Africa. Both legends attended the event along with their family, teammates, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Yuvraj also gave a motivational pep talk to the Indian team before the match.
Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket in 2019, made his India debut in 2000 and played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. He was part of India’s first T20 World Cup win in 2007 and played a key role in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory, earning Player of the Series with 362 runs and 15 wickets.
Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the India women’s team, recently led India to their first-ever Women’s World Cup win in November 2025. She made her debut in 2009 and has since played six Tests, 161 ODIs, and 182 T20Is, scoring 4409 runs in ODIs and 3654 runs in T20Is.
The inauguration of the stands celebrates their remarkable contributions to Indian cricket. Their achievements continue to inspire young cricketers across the country.
The event highlighted the significance of both players in shaping India’s cricket history, as well as their ongoing influence on and off the field.
This recognition adds a special chapter to the New Chandigarh Stadium, making it a landmark for cricket fans to celebrate the legends of the game.
