Nova Post: A Beacon of Hope in Wartime Ukraine

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Chernihiv, Ukraine – Amid air raid sirens and power outages, Nova Post, a leading private postal service in Ukraine, remains steadfast in delivering packages throughout the nation. On an ordinary November morning in Chernihiv, employees and customers moved quickly into a concrete bunker as sirens blared. Moments later, they returned to their tasks, exemplifying the resilience that has characterized the company throughout almost four years of conflict.

Since the onset of Russia's invasion, Nova Post has navigated missile threats, disrupted transport routes, and electricity shortages. Despite these hurdles, the company now handles over 1.5 million parcel deliveries per day, seamlessly connecting individuals and businesses across Ukraine. Furthermore, it has extended its reach to 16 European countries and plans to continue this expansion into 2026.

Established in 2001, Nova Post transformed Ukraine's postal sector by providing swift one-to-two-day deliveries, directly challenging the state-operated Ukrposhta. Throughout wartime, it has acted as a vital link between western Ukraine and the battleground cities in the east and south, also aiding Ukrainian refugees across Europe.

The toll of operating amidst war is significant. The company has mourned the loss of 249 employees, including both military draftees and civilians who perished due to Russian assaults. Financial losses since the invasion began have reached approximately 4 billion hryvnias ($97 million), covering destroyed shipments and damaged facilities. Nevertheless, Nova Post continues to serve even in frontline areas, often remaining the last significant business in conflict-affected regions.

Innovative solutions have allowed Nova Post to maintain its services without interruption. Major sorting depots and branches now feature generators and Starlink internet connections, enabling consistent operations despite power failures. Many customers visit these locations to charge their phones or find electricity.

With a workforce of around 30,000, the company has expanded its network to nearly 33,000 automated parcel machines and 15,000 branches by 2025. Net profits surged by 35% in the first nine months of 2025, amounting to 2.88 billion hryvnias ($67 million), illustrating impressive growth in the face of war.

Looking beyond Ukraine's borders, Nova Post is growing its international presence, ramping up deliveries to Europe, the United States, China, and beyond. It serves as a symbol of resilience and innovation within a war-impacted economy.

As the festive season nears, Nova Post has launched special holiday packaging inspired by traditional Ukrainian art, known as Vytynanka, ensuring each package delivers a touch of joy. The firm demonstrates that even in the stark realities of war, creativity and resolve can unite communities, uphold businesses, and inspire a nation.
