This decision follows Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s announcement that her province plans to remain on daylight saving time indefinitely. If actualized, Alberta will forgo the autumn time shift, maintaining the same clock setting all year round. Although this plan awaits formal legislative approval, significant opposition is unlikely.
Northwest Territories officials had previously indicated their interest in halting clock changes but were awaiting Alberta's lead.
