Oman Starts Off Asian Games Qualifiers with Victory Over Singapore

Post by : Shakul

The Oman national cricket team commenced its journey in the qualifiers for the Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” with a vital 7-run win against Singapore during Group B matches hosted in Singapore.

This match marks the beginning of a qualification tournament that runs from May 31 to June 9, where various Asian teams vie for a limited number of slots in the upcoming Asian Games set to occur in Japan from September 17 to October 3, 2026.

This win provides Oman with an early advantage in the group phase as they look to secure one of the four qualification spots available for the continental event.

The next challenge for the team is a match against Bahrain, followed by a crucial encounter with Hong Kong, both of which are pivotal for their qualification path.

As per the tournament’s structure, the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout rounds, with the final four securing a place in the Asian Games cricket competition.

Oman is fielding a youthful squad bolstered by seasoned players, including Sufyan Mahmoud, alongside emerging talents like Mohammed Al-Balushi, Zubair Al-Balushi, Issa Al-Balushi, and others.

Under the leadership of coach Sultan Ahmed, with support from staff members such as Parvez Al-Balushi and team manager Saeed Haider Al-Balushi, the aim is to cultivate a robust cricketing future for Oman.

The qualification phase consists of two groups, following the withdrawal of some teams, including Thailand and South Korea, thereby altering the competition lineup.

Presently, Oman is in Group B with Singapore, Bahrain, and Hong Kong, while Group A comprises Nepal, China, and Malaysia.

The top four teams from these qualifiers will join leading cricketing nations such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and host Japan in the Asian Games cricket tournament.
