Badr Al Busaidi Meets UNICEF Executive Director
Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell in New York on September 26, 2026, during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Oman and UNICEF Review 2026–2030 Cooperation
The meeting reviewed the existing partnership between Oman and UNICEF, along with priorities for their cooperation programme for 2026–2030. The two sides discussed opportunities to exchange expertise supporting children’s development, capabilities and access to services.
Private Sector Role in Humanitarian Work Discussed
The officials also highlighted the importance of partnerships with private sector institutions. They discussed encouraging greater private sector participation in humanitarian programmes and related areas of work.

Focus on Children Affected by Conflicts
The meeting also covered the humanitarian situation of children affected by conflicts, including children in Gaza, Sudan, Yemen and Syria. The discussions stressed the importance of humanitarian support and protection for affected children.
Call for Safe Access to Humanitarian Assistance
The two sides emphasized the need for safe and sustainable access to humanitarian aid, along with continued healthcare and education services. They also highlighted the importance of protecting children’s rights, dignity and future.
Oman FM Meets US Presidential Adviser
Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi also met Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs. The discussions covered Arab and African issues of common interest and diplomatic efforts aimed at containing conflicts and creating conditions for political settlements.
Oman-US Relations and Regional Diplomacy
The two officials also discussed continued cooperation between Oman and the United States. According to Oman’s account of the meeting, the US official highlighted Oman’s diplomatic role in bringing viewpoints closer and supporting efforts toward reconciliation and peace in the region. Oman’s Foreign Ministry has separately reported several other meetings by Badr Al Busaidi during UNGA 81 focused on dialogue, regional stability and bilateral cooperation.
